Terms of service

These terms govern your use of Talescout at talescout.app, operated by TROSS Contracting Ltd (company no. 16650966), registered office Bollin House, Bollin Walk, Wilmslow SK9 1DP, United Kingdom. By using Talescout you agree to them; if you do not agree, please do not use the app. Contact: privacy@talescout.app.

1. The service

Talescout is a reading and book-discovery app. It serves short original fiction generated by artificial intelligence under our content rules (clause 6 and the AI-use policy), AI-assisted non-fiction summaries and topic explainers, and book recommendations — some via affiliate links (clause 7 and the Affiliate disclosure).

2. Eligibility and age

Talescout is intended for readers aged 13 and over, with content pitched at a teen-and-up (PG-13) audience. If you are under the age of majority where you live, please use Talescout with the involvement of a parent or guardian.

3. No account

Talescout works without an account. Your reading is remembered anonymously on your device using local storage (see the Privacy policy). You are responsible for the device and browser you use.

4. Acceptable use

Do not misuse Talescout. In particular: no disrupting, overloading or interfering with the service; no reverse-engineering, scraping or harvesting content at scale; no circumventing security, rate limits or access controls; no accessing non-public or administrative areas; no unlawful use; no infringing our rights or others’.

5. Intellectual property

Talescout, its software, design, brand and published content (including the AI-generated fiction) are owned by TROSS Contracting Ltd or its licensors and protected by law. You have a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Talescout for your own personal, non-commercial reading. You may not copy, republish, redistribute or otherwise exploit the content except as the app expressly allows.

6. AI-generated content

The fiction in the feed is original, AI-generated creative writing, produced under rules requiring it to be wholly original and never to depict, imitate or claim to be by any real identifiable person, real author or real work. It is fiction, provided for entertainment; any resemblance to real persons or events is unintended. Our non-fiction summaries and topic explainers are AI-assisted analysis and opinion, grounded against public sources — they may still contain inaccuracies, and nothing in Talescout is professional, financial, medical or legal advice. Book details (edition, price, availability) should be verified with the retailer before purchase.

7. Book links and affiliates

Book recommendations may include affiliate links (including Bookshop.org and the Amazon Associates Programme). If you buy via these links we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Recommendations are editorial and are not determined by commission — see the Affiliate disclosure. We are not responsible for third-party websites or sellers, their content, prices or availability.

8. Disclaimers

Talescout and its content are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that content is accurate, complete, current or uninterrupted, or that book details are error-free.

9. Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, TROSS Contracting Ltd is not liable for indirect, special or consequential loss, or for loss arising from reliance on content or recommendations. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud — and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

10. Changes and availability

We may change, suspend or withdraw Talescout, or update these terms, at any time. Material changes will be brought to your attention by reasonable means; continued use after changes take effect means you accept them.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer elsewhere you may benefit from mandatory protections of your local law; this clause does not deprive you of them.
